The practice of strapping a big old supercharger onto a large-displacement American V8 to make ungodly amounts of power and torque is by now a time-honored tradition, as integral a part of national culture as baseball and apple pie.
To keep this tradition going, manufacturers are constantly coming out with newer, more advanced superchargers, engineered to blow harder, spin faster, and make power more efficiently than the ones that came before. On that note, renowned supercharger manufacturer Whipple has something big in the works - literally - for V8-powered Ford Mustang models from on up: a new massive, earth-destroying 3.
It's coming Whipple itself already offers 3. With another cubic centimeters or so of displacement, there's no telling what this new Mustang supercharger kit will produce. Unfortunately, Whipple hasn't been forthcoming with the details, declining to announce anything about the timing of its release or what sort of power gains can be expected.
Whipple did, however, share some details on some of this massive fifth-generation supercharger's performance-enhancing equipment - things like a patent-pending dual intercooler, a CFD-based inlet design for improved efficiency, a new rotor profile and rotor inlet shape, and more.

Description While Whipple broke many rules and records with its record setting S supercharger system, holding the title of the most powerful, most advanced supercharger system available, we weren't satisified and decided to build an all new supercharger from the ground up. The new, direct and port injected supercharger system features the brand new Generation 5 3.
Not to be confused with the Gen 3 or 4, this all new supercharger features industry leading efficiency from idle to redline. All new bearings, gears, rotors and housing allow the new supercharger to spin faster, longer and safer while producing more power than any other positive displacement supercharger ever built.
The also features an all new patent pending triple intercooler design that has even more volume and surface area than the already massive Whipple Cooler that cooled the Ford Cobra Jets and all the record setting S Mustangs. Couple this with the industry's leading heat exchanger, water reservoir and intercooler pump, you get more power with lower boost levels and quicker recovery times after aggressive operation. With years of OEM and racing experience, Whipple engineers have developed a unique PCM calibration that reconfigures all the necessary engine functions including fuel, spark, knock detection, torque management, transmission control and electronic throttle control.
If a parameter falls below specification, the PCM will lower boost and torque output until the problem can be cured. No other calibration in the field has such technology, giving the Whipple SC system unheralded performance and reliability.
Each complete Whipple system comes with the IAT2 harness and sensor to properly monitor the delta between the incoming air and the compressed air after the intercoolers, this helps maximize power in all given enviornments.
The 6-rib billet idler system features a billet spring loaded tensioner, billet idler pulleys and lightweight pocketed supercharger pulley. The 6-rib can easily be upgraded to a rib with the optional rib system. Each system comes with an adjustable idler pulley to allow variance in SC pulleys with minimal belt length changes.
The massive mm Roval inlet allows for nearly any throttle body to be run, 80mm stock, mm or mm throttle bodies.Earlier this month, we talked about details on the Whipple Supercharger that had turned up for the new 7. The Whipple website shows that the supercharger will come in a black finish as standard. Unfortunately, the webpage for the blower offers no price for the system, asking for those interested to call.
We do have more details on the supercharger, including power. Whipple says that the Ford 7. The Stage 2 supercharger bolts to the engine with no cutting or grinding. The Stage 2 system reportedly uses the Roval mm billet throttle body rather than the stock 80mm throttle body. Whipple notes in the description that the Stage 1 kit uses the stock 80mm throttle body, indicating that there will be two supercharger kits offered.
Whipple uses proprietary software and adds an air temperature sensor after the intercooler and maintains the stock sensor to properly vary spark advance in all different RPMs. The two-speed transmission is recalibrated to keep in its peak torque range nearly all RPMs. Whipple also notes that the red blower in the image is a prototype, and the production unit could vary.
